Family Legacy Since the 1950's
The story begins with our great-grandfather, Nicholas "Piggy" Pignone, whose nickname would become a family legacy.
In the 1950s, Nicholas and his wife, Marion Pignone, owned a beloved
candy store on Belmont Avenue in the Bronx called Piggy's. It was more
than just a neighborhood shop-it was a gathering place where friends
and families connected. Marion could often be found in the back
kitchen cooking for neighbors and sharing the warmth and generosity
that became a hallmark of our family.
On the other side of our family tree was our great-grandmother, Agnesa "Anna", who immigrated to America from Italy around 1916. Anna carried with her the traditions, recipes, and values of her life from Italy. She passed her love of cooking to her grandsons, Michael and Nicholas, teaching them not only how to prepare food, but how to bring people together around a table.
Inspired by these family traditions, Michael and Nicholas opened their
first deli, Cold Cut City, in the Bronx at just 18 and 20 years old. Their hard work,
passion, and entrepreneurial spirit led them to own several delis over
the years, including one proudly named Piggy's in Scarsdale, New York.
Today, we are proud to revive the name and carry forward the legacy
that began generations ago. Piggy's is more than a name. It is a tribute
to the generations who came before us-their hard work, their recipes,
their hospitality, and their belief that good food has the power to bring
people together.
